WIT is Working!

2013.07.07

Kerrigan Gluch of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and Rachel Chowanec of Columbia, Connecticut, are having the time of their lives... As working students for HGF, they are riding all shapes and sizes of PRE horses daily. And as part of Lendon Gray's WIT Program, they are becoming serious dressage riders. WIT stands for Winter Intensive Training, and 15 young people from around the country are here at HGF to train with Lendon Gray and attend her lecture series with top riders and trainers, tour barns and veterinary facilities, exercise with guest trainers, filling their days with top notch education for the aspiring international dressage athlete.

Its paying off for all of the WIT riders, which is covered in depth at . For Rachel and Kerrigan, the hard work is showing in their scores this season. After only their first qualifying class, they've both landed fifth in the national rankings for their respective divisions--Rachel at Young Rider and Kerrigan at Junior Rider.[nbsp]

Rachel is in her second year at Young Rider level with Embrujado (owned by Lendon Gray) and she has placed both First and Second in good sized classes at the Global Dressage Festival in front of International judges. Likewise for Kerrigan, who only started to ride the rather complicated Cuatrero last fall, and who has scored to the mid-sixties with him in the Qualifier JR classes in front of full international panels, receiving thumbs up and 8s from judges such as Anne Gribbons.

Both young ladies have set their sites on Gladstone and NAJYRCs, and they've only just begun the road to Kentucky and New Jersey, which will happen later this summer. We'll keep you posted on their progress.[nbsp][nbsp]
