Global Dressage Season in Wellington Kicks Off with Busy January
2018 started the year with numerous events at or involving Hampton Green Farm. During the first week of the year, the Robert Dover Horsemastership clinic took over the farm for one day utilizing all three arenas. Meanwhile, Lendon Gray and her WITees completed their move-in week and began the intensive training for which the program is named. Vanessa Voltman and Albert Gesierich's horses and clients started their winter season, having just arrived from Michigan. The final few horses arrived to the main barn, with every stall occupied on the property. Dani Martin and Charlotte Bredahl were on hand in January to work with all of the HGF pairs and prepare them for their warm-up classes in the national levels. Maria Lithander rode several Inter I classes with Barbara, and will now focus on the short Grand Prix with the assistance of Charlotte. Kerrigan Gluch showed all her horses at the national levels in the respective levels, Brio and Bolero at the U25 Grand Prix, and Vaquero at Inter I, followed by his first time at Inter A. Sarah Roda introduced Quintanillo to Fourth Level, in preparation for Young Riders. All pairs scored in the mid to upper 60s, and all horses demonstrated that they were prepared for new levels. Lily Forado, our marketing intern, arrived just in time to start the promotion for USPRE Week. This year's USPRE Party was the biggest ever in terms of turn-out. Over 1000 people came to a standing-room-only event filling both of the VIP tents of the Global Pavilion. One of the highlights of a very animated program was when four HGF geldings did a quadrille in costume with youth riders Kerrigan Gluch, Sarah Roda, Sophia Schults and Elena Schiefe--a performance which will be repeated at the Challenge of the Americas in March. Many VIPs from Spain and around the country attended USPRE week, and more than 30 PREs performed at the USPRE Party, from exhibitions to FEI freestyles. Later that week, Kerrigan rode Bolero in a master class with Andreas Helgstrand during the Friday night CDIW Freestyles, and later on Spanish Young Horse Champion Guillermo Ayala rode Diego (Didacus) in a seminar with Spanish team osteopath Antonio Valenzuela. The week concluded with a round table discussion featuring ANCCE officials and an FEI 4* judge discussing the PRE role in the upcoming World Championship of Young Horses. January closed with a quiet few days, for some well-needed rest before February's clinics and shows.
Lendon Youth Dressage Festival Midwest 2018 Highlights Our Graduates
The 2018 version of Hampton Green Farm's annual Lendon Youth Dressage Festival was another wonderful experience for riders, parents and professionals. Our festival has produced an extraordinary number of US Youth Team participants and WITtees who have gone on to successful careers as young professionals. This year's festival featured our superstar graduates! The three day festival began with a full TEAM clinic, led by Lendon Gray and assisted by Maria Lithander. 10 riders were provided with two days of individual training with Lendon, and attended seminars by Dr. Jeff Bunn, Nick Hanson and Kimberly Van Kampen on topics as diverse as colic, horse trailers, and sponsorship! The featured speaker at our Exhibitor's Dinner was Wellington's First Lady of Dressage, Janne Rumbough, who held the room mesmerized with her memories and lessons learned from the life of an amatuer horsewoman. Janne, who is still a top Grand Prix competitor, described the rich experiences she has gleaned in competition and horse management. She shared the three most important things that horses have taught her about life, to the appreciation and admiration of everyone who attended. Sunday's show featured riders from walk/trot through PSG and several freestyles this year. Judge Merriyn Griffin presided over the dressage tests, with post-test comments from two of our graduates, Rosie Simoes and Ayden Uhlir, who also spoke later in the day to the participants about their own career paths following their years with Lendon. Betty Horst from Michigan was our Equitation Judge and we were happy to have her expert eye and teaching skills this year at the Festival. Andrea Landis judged Turn Out and provided us with many of our photographs of the show. Our Overall Champion this year again was Sophia Schults on Idolo Americano. Sophia is a long-time Midwest Festival participant and a graduate of WIT. She and Idolo have just been named to the Region 3 Team for NAJYRC and are currently ranked sixth in the USA for Young Riders. As the trainer of the Overall Champion, Chloe Fullar of Saint Joseph, Michigan, will receive the training scholarship from Robert Dover. HGF Lendon Youth Festival 2017
Another great year for the LYDF Midwest at Hampton Green Farm. At the end of June, we held our annual youth festival--our favorite event of the summer (if not the whole year!). As in all prior years, the Festival begins with a 2 day clinic for riders under 21 who have met the criteria for the newly named TEAM (Training, Education and Mentoring) program, provided by Dressage4Kids and Lendon Gray. These riders were trained in a clinic format by Lendon, and provided seminars with Dr. Jeff Bunn of Equine Medical, on how to handle equine emergencies, Kylie Heitmann on testing supplements for effectiveness, and a Master Class by two-time Spanish Olympian Jose Daniel Martin Dockx. All TEAM riders then joined a large group of local children who competed in the Lendon Youth Festival show on Sunday. This competition consists of 3 divisions--a written test, a ridden dressage test, and an equitation class. Lots of food and fun for all the families who came out. Great rides and super young people! Our thanks to all who helped out--riders, trainers, judges, grooms, parents, sponsors, staff, and volunteers! Largest EDAP Clinic to Date at LYDF Midwest 2016
The last weekend in June is the annual Lendon Youth Dressage Festival at Hampton Green in Michigan. The show started six years ago and from the first year, it included a two-day Emerging Dressage Athlete clinic. These clinics--sponsored by Dressage4Kids, a 501C3 non-profit organization, have grown exponentially around the country as the most successful youth dressage program in the United States--over 200 riders will participate in one or more EDAP clinics in 2016. Hampton Green Farm's Michigan clinic was one of the first, and from it some prominent national riders have emerged including NAJYRC medalists and USEF National Champions. At this year's EDAP clinic, there were 15 riders whose applications were accepted for participation. Selection is based on criteria stated on the Dressage4Kids website and includes a video, test submission and a written application. The clinic stretched over three days and Lendon Gray was assisted by HGF resident trainer Maria Lithander to accommodate all the riders. Trainer Andrea Landis spoke to the group about fitness and cross-training, and Dr. Jane Bistline spoke about risk management to avoid the kinds of injuries that she treats most often in riders. All EDAP riders then competed in the Youth Festival--a three part competition consisting of a written exam, a dressage test and an equitation test. This year's Judge, Marilyn Griffin, judged all levels from Walk/Trot to Prix St. George, along with Stephanie Beamer who presided over a demanding Equitation Division. Saturday evening's special speaker was international Grand Prix rider Devon Kane, an inspiring and impressive young professional who described her journey from youth rider to US Nations Cup Team member. Her experiences from the early years of grooming and being a student, to competing with the top riders of the world, were eye-opening and instructional to all who attended. Devon is a funny, approachable, accomplished young woman who easily drew the admiration of the younger aspiring riders. Young Rider Kerrigan Gluch spoke on Sunday afternoon, telling her recent experiences while training and competing in Europe on the USEF Euro Tour. The weekend concluded with an awards ceremony, with top placings for those who excelled in the highy competitive environment. Results show that the youth riders who have consistently been a part of LYDF Midwest are improving and competing now with scores that wiill rank them with the best in the country. Our thanks to all the volunteers and parents who assisted this weekend, for the generous spirit of our sponsors and for our fantastic youth riders, from the littlest (6) all the way up to the seasoned FEI competitors. Full results available on the LYDF Midwest page on Facebook.

Kerrigan Gluch and Vaquero HGF: USEF Reserve National Young Rider Champions
At the USEF Festival of Champions in August at Lamplight Equestrian Center, long-time HGF working student Kerrigan Gluch and HGF's Vaquero were named USEF Reserve National Champion for Young Riders. In this first year together, and their first year at the Young Riders level, 18 year old Kerrigan and 8 year old Vaquero have made steady progress from national shows to international shows, to eventually a Bronze Medal at NAJYRC and now the Reserve National Championship. At Lamplight, Kerrigan was joined by both Lendon Gray and Oded Shimoni. Kerrigan is a product of Gray's Emerging Dressage Athlete and Winter Intensive Training programs, and Wellington-based Shimoni is her current trainer. Kerrigan and Vaquero were up against stiff competition, especially from 21 year old Catherine Chamberlain--a multiple NAJYRC medalist who was recently returned from the USEF European Tour--and Natalie Pai, ranked first nationally going into the competition. In the team test, Kerrigan narrowly edged out Catherine for the win, but the tables turned in the individual test. Kerrigan's scores of 69.298 and 68.289 gave them second place overall and the Reserve National Championship. Kerrigan and Vaquero's plans are to continue to compete this winter at the Young Rider level in the CDIs in Wellington, while working with Shimoni with the YR Grand Prix as an eventual goal.
Hampton Green Farm: What's Coming in 2015...
It’s the first day of a bright new year, and normally this is the time we publish our Year in Review report. But now that our website organizes news articles by year, it seems to make more sense to focus on our plans for 2015. 2014 was a great year for us, highlighted by our horses qualifying and competing at the most important championships on both sides of the Atlantic—the North Americans and the World Equestrian Games—and achieving super results and final classifications. But 2014 was also a year of building and planning for a new chapter at HGF, and when a shipment of horses arrived last fall in Wellington the new era started. For the past 4 years, our focus in the show ring has been mainly in Europe. And while Daniel has been campaigning Grandioso, he was also bringing up a number of younger horses, most notably Vaquero HGF—who is familiar to everyone who follows our farm. In October, Vaquero returned to the States, to be competed by Young Rider Kerrigan Gluch. Kerrigan spent 6 weeks training in Spain with Dani last summer to prepare to take over the ride on Vaquero (2007), who was the most successful PRE in Spain in the 5 and 6 year old Young Horse Divisions in that country. Kerrigan’s plan is to compete this coming year at Young Riders, and she will be riding Vaquero this coming weekend in the Robert Dover Horsemastership Week clinic in Wellington. Additionally, we brought back Conquero HGF and a new U25 prospect, HGF Brio—both of which are now in training with our young riders under the oversight of Lendon Gray and Maria Lithander. We hope to have lots of news about these pairs this winter during the Wellington season. We are especially excited to be bringing Grandioso and Bolero back to Wellington to compete at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival during the months of January and February. At this moment, the stallions are in transit and will settle into quarantine in the first few days of January. It has been a long-time dream of ours to compete a PRE in the international Grand Prix in the United States. Following Dani and Grandioso’s successes at three Nations’ Cups in Aachen, the London Olympics, the European Championships, and the World Equestrian Games, the last challenge is making the long trip back to the US for a Florida winter tour. The plan for now is to compete Grandioso in the CDI-W Jan.22-25, and in the 5* the first weekend of February, and for Bolero to do his first Grand Prix during the coming weeks. HGF’s commitment to the youth programs is year-long, starting with our annual “voluntary fundraiser” on January 6 benefitting Dressage4Kids and the Emerging Dressage Athlete Program. This year it’s a Rockin’ the 80s party, sure to horrify all of the young people when they see their parents and mentors in our full 80s glory! We are also proud to host the 2015 Winter Intensive Training program, led by Lendon Gray, which brings 14 riders to Wellington for a winter of education and high-level instruction by Gray and others. Again this year we will be donating 4 stalls to the winners of the Florida International Youth Dressage Championships, held in mid-March. And this coming summer, HGF will sponsor our fourth Lendon Youth Dressage Festival and EDAP clinic in June at the Michigan farm. Our breeding program continues, with 5 foals expected in the spring by sires Grandioso and Faralay II. In 2015 HGF will have a number of young horses in training that will be ready to be sold. These horses range in age from 4-6 and several may be seen this winter at the Wellington location. We know it’s bad luck in horses to plan too far in advance, but other possible destinations for our horses and riders are the USEF Championships at Lamplight in August, the North Americans in KY in July, CDIs in Spain and Germany and with good luck the European Championships in Aachen in August and Spanish Young Horse finals in September! We have a big year ahead and are ready for the challenge. 2015 is already here and we can’t wait to see what it brings. We appreciate the support of all of our friends, and wish you every success in your life and loves!
HGF at NAJYRC
Following a winter of competing in the international Junior Classes in Wellington, HGF Working Student Kerrigan Gluch was invited to represent Region 2 in the North American Junior Young Rider Championships in Kentucky with Lentisco XVIII. The pair joined several other of Lendon Gray’s WIT riders who qualified from various regions across the US and Canada, along with the rest of the top riders on the continent. One of these was Alexandra Meghji of Ontario, who competed for Canada on HGF-bred Iliado II, formerly owned by David Sonshein. Both young ladies had great results—Kerrigan finishing 8th in the Junior Individual Championship Class, and Alexandra taking the Bronze overall! The PRE horse has become very popular with the next generation of riders, who are finding that, due to the versatility of the breed, one horse can take a rider successfully from the Junior level to Young Riders and then on to Brentina Cup, as exemplified by Rachel Chowanec and Embrujado. There are several now in Lendon Gray's training program and more will be seen in the winter shows with their talented youth riders. Congratulations to Kerrigan and Alexandra for their job well done! Many thanks to Laurie Moore and Alexandra Meghji for the photos.

News from Wellington and Spain, February 2014
The Wellington show season is in full swing. Lendon Gray and her Winter Intensive Training students (WITees as they are now known) are hard at work in the HGF arenas or around the barns. Working students Rachel Chowanec and Kerrigan Gluch divide their time between the barn chores for HGF horses, WIT lectures and teaching, training with Maria Lithander, giving lessons, helping out at the USPRE exhibition, competing at Global and, not least, school work! Here is a quick update on what’s been happening so far: USPRE Week: A great success again this year, bringing out more than 600 people for the USPRE Party and exhibition, and hosting a number of events for members and friends. Special performances by Medieval Times and El Portal Andaluz made the evening shine! USEF/USDF Pipeline Clinic: Rachel Chowanec and Embrujado (owned by Lendon Gray) were invited to participate in the first ever USEF/USDF Pipeline Clinic—the brainchild of Robert Dover to bring together the top developing riders at each level to work with the USEF training staff. Rachel is currently schooling Embrujado for the U25, and found the two days of working with Robert Dover, Scott Hassler and Jeremy Steinberg very helpful. She hopes to begin to show at the new level later this season. Florida International Youth Dressage Championhips: This new Championship, started in 2013, brought out 17 riders this year in four divisions with very respectable results. WITee Katrina Sadis (who trains also with HGF blogger Andrea Landis) won the Pony Division on Poldy, a D4K horse. HGF –sponsored Kerrigan Gluch took 3rd place in the Junior Division with Lentisco XVIII. The Championship was held in the CDI classes and all tests were ridden in the International Arena at Global Dressage. Grandioso Update: Grandioso and Dani are preparing for the spring shows, with hopes to attain a place on the Spanish Team for Normandy. This month, a health emergency in Dani’s family prevented them from going to Vidauban as planned, and so they will look to do a local national show in March as warm-up before beginning to compete outside of Spain in April. We will keep you posted on their schedule. Dani reports that all the HGF horses in his care are progressing well in their training.
Back on Top! HGF-sponsored Rachel Chowanec and Embrujado XI are USEF Reserve National Champions for the Young Rider Division
It seems like only yesterday that a very shy 14 year-old arrived in Michigan from Connecticut to try out one of our horses. The little girl was Rachel Chowanec, a Lendon Gray student since she was 5 years old. The horse was Embrujado XI, an atypical PRE with behavioral issues that Lendon Gray couldn’t resist and had to own. All along, Gray had Rachel in mind for the imported gray gelding, and once again, she made the right call. Rachel took Embrujado (whom she quickly renamed “Mouse”) home with her to Connecticut, and the PRE with too much spook and too much bull-fighting instinct suddenly had pink wraps and ribbons in his long mane. It was the start of a transformation that has now taken this pair from nowhere to the National spotlight…twice! They first appeared in Gladstone in 2011 at the Junior Level, surprising many with their focused and technically accurate tests. That year they were Reserve National Champions for Junior Division. Rachel had clearly made a fundamental difference in Mouse’s life, but now we know they were only getting started. In the beginning of this year, Rachel and Mouse started along a rough road, with several small niggling injuries keeping them out of consistent competition. Their show record was sporadic, and fell short of a score to qualify for NAJYRCs. Over the summer, they attended Lendon Gray’s EDAP clinic in Maryland, as well as rode in her clinic at HGF in June. Rachel also schooled with Andrea Landis and Nicholas Fyffe over the summer with a number of her PRE projects. But their inability to show consistently this year kept them out of the top 12 for the USEF National Championships, although they were named as an alternate. Yet luck was on their side, and with only two weeks to go till the competition, Rachel received the official invitation to compete. They traveled to Kentucky not really feeling 100% prepared but very happy to be included. Again this year as in 2011, the harmony of their partnership along with the technical accuracy of their tests brought them straight up to the top of the ranking. They were up against the 2013 NAJYRC Gold Medalist and yet by the second day, the gap was closing. Scoring 65.474 in the Team Test, and 67.237 in the Individual, Rachel and Mouse took the USEF Reserve National Championships again as Young Riders. Rachel’s achievements with Embrujado represent the highest national recognition that a PRE has reached in the United States to date, and she says they have more in store. We can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
Dressage4Kids' Emerging Dressage Athlete Program and Hampton Green Farm Announce Inaugural Winter Training Program
Dressage4Kids’ Emerging Dressage Athlete Program and Hampton Green Farm are pleased to announce their inaugural winter training opportunity for youth riders. It will be held in Wellington, Florida, during the months of January through March, 2013. The program will be overseen by Lendon Gray who will be doing the majority of the riding instruction. Guest instructors and lecturers will also participate. Riders of any age (21 and under) and any riding level will be considered for participation. “Since I gave up having my own stable three years ago I have been frustrated that I could not give the opportunities to learn that I was able to provide for many working students over the years, “Lendon stated. “This is a different program but something I have dreamed about for a long time – a truly intensive training camp for serious dressage riders who are willing to put in the efforts that we see from the young Olympians from other sports now competing in London.” Lendon who was voted into eth USDF Hall of Fame, was the long time teacher for international riders Courtney King-Dye, Chris Hickey, Mica Mabragana, Meagan Davis, Jocelyn Wiese, Rachel Chowanec, and Isabelle Liebler at the beginning of their dressage careers. Participants during a lecture The goal of this program is to give an opportunity for youth riders to participate in consistent and extensive training not only in riding, but in all areas of horse care, riding and training theory, and competition skills. The program will include instruction in fitness of horse and rider, sports psychology, equestrian business management, and other pertinent subjects. There will be guest speakers, trips to watch top riders teach and train, auditing of clinics, viewing of riding at horse shows, discussions with judges, farriers, vets, etc.According to Lendon, “This will not be a program for the casual rider, but for young riders determined to be the best they can be. The age and level of the rider is not important; the determination, discipline, and drive are. The high standards that will be taken for granted of the riders while on their horses will also be expected in the care of their horses and their presentation of themselves at all times.” Team spirit The program will run from January 4 to March 28. Riders may come for the entire three months, or for shorter periods if stabling permits. There are a few horses and ponies available for riders who cannot bring their own. The fee for the program, will cover lessons, lectures, stall with hay, grain, and bedding, coaching at shows, and stable management supervision. The fee will not cover rider housing, meals, transportation, horse supplements, show fees, farrier, vet, etc. There will be time each day for riders who are homeschooled or being tutored.“I couldn't be more excited to have Dressage4Kids host their winter training camp at Hampton Green Farm in Wellington,” said Hampton Green Farm’s owner Kimberley Boyer from London where she is watching her PRE stallion Grandioso represent Spain in the Olympics. “This program corresponds so much to what HGF is involved with: the Lendon Youth Dressage Festival, the Emerging Dressage Athlete Program, and the Global Dressage Festival. A number of the riders have been working students in the past at HGF and they, and the others, are an important generation for the future of dressage in the US.” Endel Ots coaching participant Renee Isler, a long time supporter of youth in Dressage is spearheading a sponsorship program to provide scholarships for the program. Renee said that she, too, has felt a need for this type of program, as this group could very well be our future riders, trainers, judges, and even owners/sponsors. Her willingness to work for this effort is, as she states, “because, I believe in this program; it’s an amazing opportunity, and could only happen because of the generosity of someone like Lendon.” She added, “Florida is the ideal location because of the concentration of talent that will only enhance the education of this group of young people.”Anyone interested should contact Lendon Gray – lendongray@gmail.com 914-234-4158 Posted on 08/13/2012 atDressagedaily.com
Training Blog by Andrea Landis
HGF is pleased to introduce Andrea Landis, our Working Student Instructor this past summer at HGF and new owner of Brioso HGF--3 year old bay gelding by Bolero CXLVIII out of Quintera. Andrea's life is very full: she is a mother of twin boys under 2, a part-time Dressage Instructor, and full-time Physicians Assistant from Ada, Michigan. She is a long-time student of Christine Traurig and has trained a number of her own young horses to FEI levels. During this summer with the working students, Andrea has become introduced to the PREs at Hampton Green and, like so many professionals who now own HGF horses, has found the breed to be anything but the stereotype that she imagined. Since so many of our clients are starting young horses, we thought Andrea's experiences and thoughts about training her own young PRE might be helpful. Andrea has agreed to put her training experiences down in the form of a blog which we will feature on our website. Her first entry is fresh off the printer and featured here. For more information about Andrea, you can find her on the HGForum on Facebook or call the office at HGF. It Was Love at First Sight Kim hired me last spring to instruct the HGF working students two days a week for six weeks. I was thrilled with the opportunity to be a part of such a reputable farm and to work with Lendon Gray, and the three lovely young ladies I was going to be teaching. I planned out my 6 weeks of teaching and was going to go on my merry way! Wrong… 8:00am first day on the job, there’s Brioso standing in his stall, my life was changed. A total string bean, it looked like both of his front legs came out of the same hole from his chest, they were that close together! All legs, with a big bony shoulder, long neck, well angled, yes, bony hips, and this tail that most would kill for. The first thing out of my mouth.… that doesn’t look like an “Andalusian”. Oops, maybe not the best thing to say at a PRE breeding farm. The image I had in my head and the stereotype of what most Americans think of when you talk about Iberian horses, was absolutely nothing like this stunning bright bay, leggy 3 year old standing in front of me. That day Jasmin Shaudt, wife of Martin Shaudt from Germany, and fellow PRE lover, was there with her mom to look at young horses. Jasmine competed two Hampton Green bred 5 years olds last year with amazing scores, and was looking to add a few more Spanish horses to their farm. Brioso was the first out to be shown. Kim asked me to lunge him a little for Jasmin, in a halter. Sure… an unbroken 3 year old who has just brought in from being out in the pasture all winter. I was floored to see him trot and canter around, with big reaching, balanced gaits, perfect as you please. I knew he had been lunged a bit the summer before, but this young guy was a total pro! I jokingly said to Kim, that I may come in the night to steal him!! But in reality Brioso stole my heart, and changed to course of my riding career. So over the next 6 weeks I managed to sell my current horse, and with the help of Kim, was able to work out an agreement to purchase Brioso. In the past few months we have gone from learning voice commands on the lunge line, to breaking under saddle, and now Brioso and I are cruising around the indoor arena and out in the open fields. His canter is so huge, it literally takes 6 strides to get down the long side. He is brave and so eager to learn. He is the horse that talks to me every time I walk down the barn isle, gallops up to me whinnying when I get him from the field. I hope to continue writing about our journey, and showing pictures and short video clips of our training along the way. My dream has always been to buy a young horse and train him up through the levels of dressage, and someday if all the stars align, compete at the Grand Prix level. I think I have found a four legged partner that seems to be up for the challenge! So with the help of Kim Boyer, Christine Traurig and Lendon Gray, hopefully you will see Brioso and I in the FEI ring… in oh maybe 4 or 5 years :) One of the most valuable training tips I can offer thus far is: Train voice commands on the lunge line. Start this as soon as you start lunging and repeat before every ride for the first few months the horse is under saddle. Simple noises and words that you repeat every time you ask for a change of gait (walk, trot, canter, clucks, kissing, whoa.) repeat the process until the horse gets it, with lots of praises when they respond. Not only is lunging valuable to help the horse learn overall obedience, a steady rhythm, and contact with the bit, but also how to balance in transitions without the weight of the rider. This will make your job as the trainer much easier during the first several rides. Some horses do not instinctively know that when you squeeze or kick with your legs it means to go. As was pointed out to me by Brioso the first time I rode him under saddle (while under the watchful eye of Lendon Gray…..!) I was squeezing and kicking (as nicely as I could because this was my new baby) but he had no idea what language I was speaking. I could barely go past the walk because he was so confused with all my efforts. After spending some more time on the lunge line training voice commands, he could make the correlation between the voice and me using my legs (along with a helpful person on the ground with a lunge whip). Now with the voice commands I can use minimal leg aids, and just a kiss he picks up the canter, cluck and he trots. He does the transitions easily and with confidence under saddle. No loss of balance of rushing into the canter! Over the next several months I hope to write about our training experiences. Christine Traurig is coming at the end of September to help me, so I am sure there will be lots of things to share! Read in PDF format
2012 Lendon Youth Dressage Festival Midwest Champions
In its second year, the 2012 LYDFM brought out close to 35 riders (up from 20 last year) from as far away as Georgia and Missouri, and close to 60 rides at levels from Walk/Trot up to Intermediare I, including the 8 participants of the Emerging Dressage Athlete Program Clinic held concurrently at HGF. Top names in dressage were on hand to coach, judge, and instruct the riders-- ages 8-21--in all things pertaining to general horsemanship and dressage in particular, with lectures on topics ranging from lungeing the young horse, emergency shoe removal, pre-purchase examinations and training scale to stretching exercises to build the core of the horse, and how to manage college and riding. Parents were on hand to help throughout the week and many local and not-so-local volunteers came to support the youth riders and the show. Our thanks to all those who contributed: lecturers, volunteers, show management, sponsors, HGF staff, parents, siblings and riders! Our special appreciation to Lendon Gray, Lyn Kendall, Marilyn Fahringer, Endel Ots, Natalie Lamping, Jacklyn Brooks, Tom Reed, Hilary Clayton, Mike Shoernbern, and Dr. Ira Engeltsje.
