From Ocala to Segovia: Santiago HGF Podiums in Final Qualifier for ANCCE PRE Team
With the FEI WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses in Verden firmly in sight (04-09 August), the final CDIYH qualifying event for the ANCCE PRE Team selection took place from June 16-18 at the Centro Ecuestre de Castilla y León (CECYL) in Segovia, Spain. The competition represented the last opportunity for owners, breeders and riders to secure the scores required for selection to the Spanish PRE Team heading to Verden this August. FROM OCALA TO SEGOVIA Following a successful spring campaign in the United States, including strong performances at the CDI Ocala and CDI TerraNova, Santiago HGF made the journey from Florida to Spain for this mandatory selection event. The five-year-old stallion, bred by Hampton Green Farm and ridden by Antonio Crespín, faced a highly competitive field of 12 horses, the largest and most competitive age group of the show. Judged by an international panel consisting of Juan Carlos Campos, Knut Danzberg, and Hans Voser, two of whom will officiate at the World Championships in Verden next month, Santiago HGF delivered another solid performance. The son of Grandioso III x Joyero XXIV finished third in the preliminary test with a score of 77.200% and fifth place in the final with 73.800%. CECYL( Centro Ecuestre de Castilla y León) in Segovia holds a special place in Hampton Green Farm’s history. In 2018, José Daniel Martín Dockx competed there with Mejorano HGF, another son of Grandioso III, obtaining the qualifying scores required for the FEI World Championships in the seven-year-old division. A year later, the pair returned to compete at Intermedia A/B level. The farm also has fond memories of Campanero HGF, who contested the selection process for the five-year-old division at the same venue in 2019. ROAD TO VERDEN The 2026 season has been demanding for young dressage horses, with an intensive calendar and a highly competitive selection process requiring consistency throughout the year. The qualification pathway in Spain included CDI in Jerez de la Frontera, Vejer de la Frontera, Murcia, Medina Sidonia, Madrid, and finally Segovia, where participation was mandatory for horses seeking selection to the ANCCE Team. With the final qualifier now complete, all eyes turn to ANCCE, which is expected to announce its team selection in the coming days.
American-Bred Santiago HGF Leaves Ocala for First Euro Tour
Santiago HGF, a 2021 PRE Stallion by Grandioso III, is making the long journey from his home in Ocala to Segovia, Spain, just outside of Madrid. Santi is currently qualified in the FEI 5 Year Old division for Spain for the Selection Trials for the World Championship of Young Horses. As a member of the World Breeding Federation of Sport Horses, ANCCE, the PRE Studbook, establishes the qualifications for their representation at the World Championships, held later in the summer in Germany. Young horses across Spain, as in other European countries, have been vying since January for the minimum scores to qualify for the team. Final selection will be made following the CDI in Segovia, June 16-18, and upon health and soundness verifications. Hampton Green Farm rider Antonio Crespin Lopez and Santi debuted this Spring in Ocala and Terranova at the international FEI 5 Year Old level, achieving high scores over 80% at both shows, which made Santi now the second US-bred horse to ever qualify for Young Horse team selection trials in Spain--the first being Santi's half-brother Mejorano HGF (also by Grandioso III) who competed for Spain in the FEI 7 Year Old Division at Ermelo in 2018 with Jose Daniel Martin Dockx. Santi will now compete alongside top 5 year old representatives from the most prestigious breeding farms in Spain. Santiago HGF was born in Michigan and is a son of two-time Olympic mount Grandioso. Santiago HGF Trains with Steffen Peters
We had the best kick-off of the season. Santiago HGF (Grandioso III x Joyero XXIV), ridden by Kerrigan Gluch, participated in a clinic with six-time U.S. Olympic rider Steffen Peters in Ocala. During the session, Peters shared his impressions and feedback on the young stallion, praising the quality and potential of this promising U.S.-bred PRE from the Hampton Green Farm “We had a wonderful time working with Kerrigan today and was really impressed with your with your boy; hat was fun. The first thing that comes to my mind is the temperament of the horse, you know just for a 5 year old to come to a new location and then just so settled and so willing to work with us it was just one of those lessons where you say you know what this is this is really fun. In general the impression of the horse is so important and the mouth was so quiet he does have a beautiful canter which is not always the case for this breed, he does have a good lengthening in trot, so it clearly would give me the impression that this is going to be a very special horse and potentially an international Horse.

Two of Hampton Green Farm's Michigan-bred young horses took home medals from SICAB 2018--the World Championship of PRE Horses--from the Finals of the Copa ANCCE. Competing against the highest ranking PRE horses in the country of Spain following a year of qualification, Mejorano HGF attained a Silver Medal and Campanero HGF the Bronze in the 7 Year Old and 5 Year Old Divisions respectively. Both horses represent the bloodlines that characterize the output of HGF, primarily the lines of Olympic stallion Grandioso III from Yeguada Marin Garcia. From Michigan to the World Stage: HGF Horses in FEI Championships Summer 2018
Two Michigan-bred PRE horses from Hampton Green Farm will represent the USA and Spain this summer in FEI Championship shows. Mejorano HGF, a son of two-time Olympian Grandioso III, has been selected to represent Spain in the World Championships of Young Horses in the 7 Year Old Division. A rigourous qualifying agenda beginning in January of this year was established by ANCCE, the national PRE breed association which represents Spain in the Championships. Among the best horses from the best stud farms in Spain, American-bred Mejorano HGF, ridden by Jose Daniel Martin Dockx, topped the 7 Year Old ranking and was subsequently selected by team trainer Jurgen Koschel for his spot in the 2 horse quota for the division. On the other end of the spectrum, long-time schoolmaster Idolo Americano (Idilio x Escapada) has found a new career in the hands of Sophia Schults of Saint Joseph, Michigan. In two years, 17 year old Sophia has taken Idolo from FEI Junior to FEI Young Riders and has now qualified for the FEI North American Youth Championships for Region 3. Both Championships will be held the first week of August, in Ermelo, Netherlands and North Salem, New York respectively. HGF's Ataturc and Mejorano Bring Home the Medals at SICAB World PRE Championships 2017
Hampton Green's two entries in the Copa ANCCE Finals at SICAB 2017 topped their classes of world-class PRE young horses from the best breeders worldwide. For a second time, HGF competed a Michigan-bred PRE in the SICAB 6 year old finals, and for the second time brought home the Bronze Medal. Our last time to compete at the World Championship of PRE Horses was in 2013, when Jose Daniel Martin Dockx and Vaquero HGF were bronze medalists in the 6 Year Old division. This year, Dani returned to the 6 Year Olds with Mejorano HGF, son of Grandioso III and Ibiza, bred in Michigan. A close scoring level, juried by 6 international judges over two days, finished with the HGF pair again taking the Bronze with scores of 77.8 and 75.2 in the Preliminary and Final tests respectively. Mejorano HGF was sent to Spain from the US in 2015 for training with Dani and we expect him to continue to improve and strengthen as he moves up the levels to the more technical tests. There was no question, however, who would bring home the Gold in the 7 Year Old Division. HGF's Ataturc was the clear favorite of the two days of competition. With scores of 74.79 and 76.41, Ata and Dani topped a class of high quality, well-trained 7 year olds PREs. Ata has only just begun his show career and has won each of the 6 classes he has entered to date. He was purchased in 2016 as a 6 year old from his breeder, Yeguada Ducal--a PRE breeder in Germany. The horse had been backed at the three gaits but little else, having been used for breeding prior to coming to Mijas. Ata quickly took to his new career in dressage, and Dani decided he was ready to go into the show ring for the first time just two months ago at the Dos Lunas CDN in September. Ataturc is from the bloodlines of ANCCE Elite Stallion Ermitano on his dam's side, and the son of Activo VII, known to riders from the days of the CAR-ANCCE program. One note on the Doma Clasica (Dressage) competition as a whole--the presence of high-quality and competitive mares! Mares are now the choice of many of the breeders and riders in Spain for dressage and are making their ascension to the top placings in each class, from 4 year old to Grand Prix. With changes to the selection process for the World Championship of Young Horses (Ermelo) planned for next year which will give preference to qualifed PREs in Spain, the path is now wide open for both mares and stallions to be recognized for their quality at the young horse levels. Hang on for the ride! Photos by Lily Forado
European Championships 2015: Spain Earns Olympic Berth
In a nail-biting European Championships full of surprises, Spain's national dressage team, which included HGF's Grandioso III, secured for themselves a place in Rio with an overall Fourth Place finish in Aachen, Germany. There are many stories about this European Championships, written about in all of the major news outlets--the final and unexpected outcome among the top 3 teams, and the controversy surrounding the retirement of Totilas, the elimination of two top horses, a broken collarbone, some contested judging, and so on and so on.... But there were other stories that were written mainly in the non-English dressage news--in Spanish, Swedish, French, Danish and Russian--for each it's the story of the Team Competition, the race which would determine who (besides Germany, Netherlands, Britain, USA and Australia) would send a team to Rio next year. It's safe to say that the pressure for those teams who were still vying for an Olympic spot was 10 times greater than that of the top 3. And the results that emerged at the last minute turned out to be unpredicted by even the best analysts. The sense of pressure produced mistakes in virtually every test--the clean test was the exception even among the very top riders at this European Championship. The tests were not held in the usual Deutsche Bank stadium, but in the main stadium where jumping is normally held. This in itself was an issue for many horses who found the huge extended lawn which surrounded the arena and then the far-away walls of stands to be isolating and intimidating. The heat was another factor, particularly on Wed afternoon and all day on Thursday, which then broke to cold rain for Saturday and Sunday. Many pairs with high rankings and averages dropped into the 60s due to tension in the horses which produced errors and surprises. This was the case at all the levels, not the least for the highest ranked horses. Daniel and Grandioso did their Grand Prix on the first day, and scored a conservative but high-ranking 71.3%, which had them individually in 7th place after the first day, and, with Norte's results, the team in a tentative 5th place. We needed good rides and no surprises from our two warmbloods to keep ourselves in one of the three coveted places. There was lots of bad news for a few of our rivals, and some really good luck for at least one team, but for us it was the value of all the effort of the team that produced our results in the end. Following a brilliant ride by Morgan Barbencon with Painted Black (who is retiring after this show), by 7 pm we knew that we had clinched the Olympic qualification with a preliminary Fifth place, going with only the first three scores from Norte, Grandioso and PB. By this time, those countries that made us the most nervous, Denmark and Belgium, were out of contention, and we believed we had little to no chance to pass Sweden with strong scores from Tinne Wilhemsen and Patrick Kittle. Our security in the rankings allowed Bea to ride without pressure, but she was taking nothing for granted. Her career high score of over 77% clinched a stunning finish of Fourth Place for Spain! Spain's last minute surge took many by surprise, as did strong performances by Russia and France, who came within hairs of each other. Daniel and Grandioso ranked 21st in the Grand Prix and went on to finish 26th of the best horses in all of Europe following the GP Special. All of us at HGF are so pleased to have been a part of the experience of this European Championships. This show was particularly difficult due to many things--the pressure of what was at stake, the lower than normal scores generally across the board, the electric atmosphere in the arena, the distracting scandals and the irresponsible "news" reporting during the thick of the competition. However, now that the smoke has cleared, what is evident is the strength of the team spirit in Spain, which held together through the ups and downs. In his own right at the age of 16, Grandioso continues to be a groundbreaker for the PRE horse: the first to win a CDI at Grand Prix in the US, a multiple winner of CDIs in Spain and Europe, two-time National Champion of Spain, the highest scoring PRE in the history of Aachen CHIO, and a team member consistently since London 2012 helping Spain achieve many medals in the nations cups and high placings as a country in world championships. As of September, 2015, Grandioso remains the highest ranked Iberian horse in the world, a position he has held unchallenged since this time in 2013. What the next year will bring is anyone's guess...Dani and Grandioso will continue to train with hopes to maintain their relevance to Spain as their final competition year together approaches.
Spring Schedule 2014
It’s the middle of April, a time of transition at Hampton Green Farm. The Wellington season is over, with satisfying results for both of our working students, Kerrigan Gluch and Rachel Chowanec. With their competitive scores in the CDIs this winter, both young women are hoping for an invitation to the Festival of Champions at Gladstone in June, and for Kerrigan, a spot on the Region 2 Team for the North American Junior Young Rider Championships in Kentucky in July. The Michigan farm is finally thawed out after one of the harshest winters on record. This year we are not expecting any foals, as we gave our mares a rest over the winter. We will be rebreeding a select group of mares for next year’s foaling crop—utilizing sires Grandioso III and Qualified stallion Faralay II (Ebanisto x Lebrijano III), owned by Ketcham Ranch in Paicines, CA. In Spain, Daniel Martin Dockx has begun competing the horses again after a winter of training new levels. He presented three of our younger stallions in national shows, with scores ranging from 65-68% at Prix St. George, the first time at the level for two of the three. This spring we purchased several new horses and have integrated them into our program at the Hippodromo in Mijas. Grandioso’s upcoming schedule includes: May 15-18 CDI 4* Glock Show in Treffen, Austria June 11-14 Spanish National Championships in Barcelona We will report show results, photos and videos when available on our Facebook page at Hampton Green Forum.
Can Alzina Inaugural Show a Resounding Success
Last weekend in Barcelona, Grandioso III and Daniel Martin Dockx participated in the first Can Alzina CDN3* at the brand new, world-class facility called Can Alzina, owned by the Elias/Collins/Vila family. Immaculate stables with Rower [&] Rub stalls, 4 Martin Collins arenas, a spectacular covered arena and a beautiful stone clubhouse now compliment the cobble-stone pathways and ancientbuildings that were originally on the site, which also houses a renowned restaurant featuring the local Catalan cuisine. The owners of the stables have made it a future goal to host an international series of shows, similar to Sunshine Tour, but later in the Spring, to bring together riders from Spain, France and beyond for two weeks of Spanish hospitality and top competition. In order to convince the Federation that they are ready to hold such a series, this first year was a national show like none other--featuring international judges and international-style management. Over 200 horses were on site, with a full schedule of Young Horse classes, Youth Classes, and all FEI levels. The spirit of the weekend was unforgettable, with virtually the entire Spanish dressage community coming together to support Annabelle and Augusti Elias, and Lucas and Nuria Elias and all of their family who hosted the event. Following Friday night's award ceremony, the celebrating went on until 5 am, in classic Spanish style! Grandioso finished second both days of the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Kur with scores above 70%, outscored only by Spain's national treasure Fuego de Cardenas. Our thanks to the Elias family for their warm and generous hospitality-- and to the Collins family for giving to Spain and their new Spanish family the gift of a world-class dressage facility in which to develop and promote this sport for everyone.
US-Born VAQUERO HGF Tops 5 Year Old PREs at Spanish National Young Horse Championships
Hampton Green Farm is proud to announce that Michigan-born Vaquero HGF, ridden by Daniel Martin Dockx, topped all PREs in the Five Year Old Division of the Spanish National Young Horse Championships, held last week in Zaragoza, Spain. Additionally, Vaquero HGF was the only PRE to place in the top ten for the division. The Spanish National Young Horse Trials, this year hosted at Feria de Ecuzar, brought out more than 150 young horses in the four divisions (4 Years, 5 Years, 6 Years, and Developing Horse 7-9 Years). There were 60 horses in the 5 Year Old Division, roughly divided equally between PREs and warmblood horses. Qualifiers for the finals were held at rated shows throughout the year, and this year's championship field presented the finest exemplars of the best studfarms in Spain, as well as many high-quality imported German stock. Vaquero HGF is by Cuatrero IV, out of Encina HGF (by Idilio II). Vaquero's sire was imported from the Yeguada Marin Garcia and is closely related to Grandioso III. Vaquero's dam, like Vaquero, was bred at HGF's Michigan location. As a three year old, Vaquero was selected by Courtney King-Dye as a future prospect, however, following her injury, Vaquero was sent to Spain to be started by Daniel. The pair had a very respectful showing at the 2011 Four Year Old National Championships (finishing in the top 10 horses, and top 5 PREs). Competition photos to be posted as we get them. Hampton Green Farm Year in Review 2011
Hampton Green Farm Year in Review 2011 The headlines use expressions like “gathering steam” and “gaining momentum” to describe the gradual improvement of the American economy now at the beginning of 2012. At HGF, our fortunes have followed a similar course as the national economy over the past few years of downturn—with the devastating loss of our Grand Prix rider Courtney King-Dye and the difficult necessity of a herd reduction sale of our prize babies in 2010—to a year of change and good momentum forward in 2011. The highlights of 2011 have been many, and are already well publicized: --Grandioso III leaves for Spain in January to go to rider Jose Daniel Martin Dockx , who introduced the stallion to the Grand Prix level in May. By October, the pair had competed in one CDI and 3 national shows before going on to win the Spanish National Championships in Madrid. Their first year together, and first year at this level, finished with a surprising Fourth Place at both Grand Prix and Grand Prix Kur at CDI4* Salzburg in December. At the end of the year Grandioso was named to the pre-selection team for Spain in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics. --HGF-bred Encanto XI (Evento x Cantora 2002) was also introduced to the Grand Prix in 2011, with a respectable debut at the Sunshine Tour in March with rider Daniel Martin. The pair later traveled to Saumur to represent Spain in the CDIO, and finished Fifth in the Consolation Grand Prix. --Idilio II and Mica Mabragana spent the winter in the highly competitive international small tour classes in Wellington, receiving their qualifying scores for the Pan American Games. Later in the year, they are invited by the National Equestrian Federation of Argentina to represent that country in the Games. Although they did not make the trip to Guadalajara, Idilio completed his best year at international competition and now at 17 is retired from formal dressage competition to enjoy the more relaxing schedule of exhibition work. --HGF-sponsored horse and rider team, Embrujado XI and Rachel Chowanec, take Wellington by storm in 2011 with numerous wins at FEI Junior level. They went on in September to be USEF Reserve National Champion Juniors. --HGF-bred Vaquero (Cuatrero x Encina 2007) qualifies for the National Young Horse Championships in Spain, and from a field of over 60 horses, finishes 9th overall and 5th of all PREs nationally at the Four Year Old level in September with rider Daniel Martin. --HGF-bred Icono, (Idilio x Escapada, 2006), owned by Martin Schaudt and ridden by Jasmin Schaudt, places first or second in three large FEI Five-Year Old competitions near Stuttgart, Germany—a first in Germany for a PRE at the Young Horse levels. --HGF-bred horses around the United States achieve over 70% at their respective levels with their owners and riders, including: Decoroso HGF and Cindy Ramirez Smith Innato HGF and Suzanne O’Brien Icaro HGF and Annie Morris Fiero HGF and Nicholas Fyffe --In 2011, HGF continued its commitment to Dressage4Kids by hosting the first Lendon Youth Dressage Festival Midwest in July, along with the first annual Emerging Dressage Athlete Invitational clinic. Of that event, 5 Midwest riders were among 18 total riders under 21 who were selected to attend the year-end Robert Dover Horsemastership Week and Mega-clinic in Wellington, where HGF had the honor of hosting the final dinner for the young people and their parents. Looking forward to 2012 with great excitement…We have 6 foals on the way and Sandy Talbot and her team are now managing many fields of young horses again… Our two Grand Prix horses are getting ready for the Sunshine Tour in February, along with 5 year old Vaquero...Mica Mabragana is preparing Cuatrero for the International Small Tour this winter in Wellington, while Rachel and Embrujado enter the Young Rider division…Our dates for the Lendon Youth Dressage Festival Midwest and EDAP Clinic are set for July…The TEAM70 horses are moving up the levels…and finally, the American economy seems to be back on track…Hang on, its full steam ahead!
Grandioso III and Daniel Martin Dockx to Compete in London!
With the unfortunate withdrawal of Beatriz Ferrer-Salat's Delgado due to an injury, Hampton Green Farm's Grandioso III and Daniel Martin Dockx move into the starting line-up for the Spanish Team at the 2012 London Olympic Games. On Sunday, the pair settled into the Olympic barns and facilities and began preparations for Thursday's Grand Prix. Dani is in good spirits and reports that the horse is in top form. With the retirement of Delgado from the team, Spain's prospects for a medal are compromised, but Team Grandioso is committed to putting in its best performance and upholding the strength of the other two riders--Juan Manuel Munoz on Fuego and Morgan Barbancon on Painted Black. Grandioso VII is a 16.2 hand (165 cm) stallion branded Yeguada Marin Garcia, who exhibits the same quality and scope of movement as his brother, with additional stature and overall size. Grandioso VII has competed successfully in dressage in the United States and has been bred in Spain at both Yeguada Nadales and Marin Garcia. Cooled and frozen semen available. E1000.00 plus shipping and processing. For more information, contact Pedro Nadales at 011-34-617-39-25-93 or yeguadanadales@gmail.com or contact Hampton Green Farm.
Toledo (Madrid) CDI3*: Team HGF Tops the Boards
Daniel Martin Dockx brought two horses to the CDI in Toledo, Spain, just outside of Madrid: Grandioso III and Vaquero HGF. With Grandioso, the pair won the Grand Prix on Friday, topping a class of 15 with 70.7%. On Sunday, they clinched the Kur with 75.00%, which should improve their FEI individual world ranking even higher from their current 48th place position. Not a bad place to be in their second year together at international Grand Prix. Six year old Vaquero HGF (Cuatrero X Idilio) finished the weekend as the top PRE in the young horse classes--with both the highest single score (73.8) and the highest average of all the young horse classes--to win the Copa ANCCE for the weekend. Congratulations to our Spanish team! Next stop on the road to Denmark is Austria! Picture Credits: Pedro Godinho
