JUSTINE BOYER AND CAMPANERO HGF SWEEP JUNIOR CDI DIVISION AT HAMPTON GREEN FARMS WEC MAY DRESSAGE CDI3* PRESENTED BY LUGANO DIAMONDS
Ocala, FL – Competition wrapped up on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Hampton Green Farms WEC May Dressage CDI3* presented by Lugano Diamonds. Winning all three of their classes this week were Justine Boyer (USA) and Campanero HGF in the Junior CDI division.
Boyer and Campanero HGF, an 11-year-old PRE gelding by Camaron IX x Adelante owned by Hampton Green Farm, closed out their week with a win in the CDIJ Junior Freestyle with a top score of 72.250%. Laila Edwards (USA) and Farah-Jade, her own 14-year-old KWPN mare by Casantos x Gagson Wimborn AA, scored 68.442% for second place.
Campanero HGF is a home-bred, and Boyer has been riding the gelding for five years. They started at Training Level and went through to Third Level. This is their second year competing at the international level.
Boyer, who is 17 years old, noted that their trust has grown throughout the years, and she has learned how to better manage her horse’s spookiness.
“He’s a super caring and a willing horse to do the job. He wants to please you and make you happy,” said Boyer. “He’s tested me in a very good way with my riding. He was more advanced than I was when I started riding him. He taught me patience. He has feelings and is sensitive; he’s an animal.”
The pair rode to a freestyle designed by Marlene Whitaker that featured music from the Disney movie “Moana.”
“This week we wanted to work on his trot work and get him to really come through and have him loosen up his neck while maintaining the activity,” explained Boyer. “The freestyle went pretty well. I could have ridden few of the changes better. What we wanted to work on today was accomplished. It definitely helped our confidence in a few of the different movements.”
This is their third CDI Freestyle this year as they work toward their goal of qualifying for the Region 3 team for the 2024 FEI North American Youth Championships as well as the U.S. Dressage Festival of Champions.
Boyer thanked her entire team at Hampton Green Farm, along with her trainer, Maria Lithander, and her parents for their support.
